Actually, I’m wondering if the GFR has really gone down, or if this is still within the margin of error. I think the good news is, it’s still close to that 30 range. Any chance they could start dialysis to give the kidney a little “vacation”, and let it recover some, but make sure they don’t dialyze off the chemo, which would be at cross purposes to the chemo? Just a thought, but this is something the oncologists should be able to figure out – would dialysis downgrade the effect of the chemo. I also realize that even temporary dialysis is no walk in the park, but maybe that would just be it, a temporizing measure. Again, just a thought.
From all of your research and input from other parents who have and are going through a kidney transplant with their children it doesn’t sound like a good thing. I believe transplanted kidneys also only last about 7 years and then you must undergo another transplant down the road again anyway. So I think if the kidney’s working, Austin is looking and feeling great, let’s just see how long you can get out of that little kidney.
